Garden Graduation

I graduated yesterday!  I moved from just deadheading flowers to being a substitute waterer.  I’m so proud.

We went to the garden center yesterday and Richard was busy potting our new flower babies with his special potting mix.  It’s been very dry here, and the plants are guzzling water.  So I took over watering.  I’m working on perfecting my technique.

Speaking of flower babies, our first ones are growing up so fast.  So much color in the yard.  It looks awesome.  But there are a few I’m worried about.  I’ve got one dahlia that dropped its blooms and is taking its sweet time to blossom again.  It has a few tiny buds so I’m hopeful.  The white geranium is a slow grower, but we think it will be okay.

They say talk to your plants.  I worked with a woman years ago who said she’d stand over hers and say “Grow you damn fools.”  Seems harsh to me.  Instead, I just worry in silence and check on them often.

The petunias, red geraniums, daisies, salvia, and other dahlias are doing very well.  The marigolds are up and the zinnias will soon follow.

Yesterday’s haul at the garden center brought deep pink and purple petunias, white impatiens, and caladiums to our garden.  I would still like a coleus.  They had some but not the size I wanted.  We’re regretting passing up a peony earlier.  We found one yesterday but at a stiff price.

Hope your gardens are thriving and that you are out there often with coffee, tea or wine enjoying your peaceful oasis.

On Facebook, I talk about nature, poetry, and the life of a writer.
I’d love for you to follow me there!

As a writer, she finds peace and inspiration when hiking in the woods, strolling on sandy beaches, and observing nature’s show in her backyard. Those experiences are captured in her first book, Nature’s Quiet Wisdom. Before writing books, Lynn worked as a radio/TV reporter and writer for the US Department of Agriculture and owned a consulting business that trained professionals on the creation and delivery of effective presentations.
