What I'm Reading Now

When things are turned upside down, books can be a comfort.  I’ve turned off the TV so I have more time to read and write.  This stack is what’s at the top of my reading pile right now.

Mondays in October by Sheree K. Neilsen is a gorgeous book of poetry and photography about the beach.  I pick this up every morning to read a selection.  Sheree’s use of color in her descriptions is beautiful.  This book brings me such peace and happiness.  It’s a lovely “visit” to one of my favorite places, the water.   The book is a spot of calm in troubled times.

Mary Oliver’s A Thousand Mornings is another gorgeous collection of poems that carries the reader to a place of peaceful reflection.  Just looking at the cover makes me breathe deeply and relax.

Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters is an old book that I discovered back in my school days.  Masters gives each of the now deceased residents of Spoon River resting in the cemetery a chance to tell their life stories and secrets.  I love this book.

I’m halfway through Harry’s Trees by Jon Cohen.  I had a bit of trouble getting into this book, but it’s a curious story of adventure, healing and friendship.  Now that I’m more immersed in the story, I want to see how it ends.  My favorite character so far is Olive, the old librarian.

I just started reading Graham Greene’s Our Man in Havana.  I’m hooked on the story and can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

The Writing Life by Annie Dillard was a Christmas gift that I haven’t read yet.  I need to set aside time to savor this one.

Books and time to read have become so precious to me.

What are you reading?

On Facebook, I talk about nature, poetry, and the life of a writer.
I’d love for you to follow me there!

Lynn H. Wyvill grew up in Washington DC where her favorite activity was sitting under a Japanese red maple tree, watching clouds create pictures in the sky. As a writer, she finds peace and inspiration when hiking in the woods, strolling on sandy beaches, and observing nature’s show in her backyard. Those experiences are captured in her first book, Nature’s Quiet Wisdom. Before writing books, Lynn worked as a radio/TV reporter and writer for the US Department of Agriculture and owned a consulting business that trained professionals on the creation and delivery of effective presentations. She is a lifelong learner, avid reader, small town explorer, and dedicated theater attendee who lives in beautiful Virginia with her husband.
