Plant Babies

The weather has run hot and cold, wet and dry, but it didn’t stop us from starting our seedlings.

My husband has put seedlings in a cold frame with a heater.  He’s moved plants inside, outside, on the porch and into the patio sunshine.

We refer to them as his plant babies.  Because of his nurturing, we have mint, thyme, dill, chives, parsley, rosemary, and the beginning of the radishes coming up.  I love all of them. I can’t wait for potato salad made with dill.  Radishes sliced thin and placed on a buttery piece of sourdough bread with some sea salt on top is one of my favorite snacks.

The cilantro and lavender haven’t done as well, but we’re still hopeful.  If not, we can find some plants and start over.

The tulips came up bright in the sun.  The picture above is the front yard. We have some tulips in the backyard, but he thinks he’ll move them next year to the front yard where they will be a bit more protected from March winds.

I can’t wait to go to the garden center(s) and select some flowers.  We’ll have zinnias and marigolds again this year.  It looks like the azaleas will bloom, and the hosta is starting to spring up.  A picture of ranunculus on Instagram has me wanting one of those.   And I’ll see what else I can’t live without.  I may have to limit myself to one cart.

We may need more pots!

What are you planting?

On Facebook, I talk about nature, poetry, and the life of a writer.
I’d love for you to follow me there!

Lynn H. Wyvill grew up in Washington DC where her favorite activity was sitting under a Japanese red maple tree, watching clouds create pictures in the sky. As a writer, she finds peace and inspiration when hiking in the woods, strolling on sandy beaches, and observing nature’s show in her backyard. Those experiences are captured in her first book, Nature’s Quiet Wisdom. Before writing books, Lynn worked as a radio/TV reporter and writer for the US Department of Agriculture and owned a consulting business that trained professionals on the creation and delivery of effective presentations. She is a lifelong learner, avid reader, small town explorer, and dedicated theater attendee who lives in beautiful Virginia with her husband.
