Garden Angel

The summer heat is here, so we are watering every day.

I’ve slowed down on buying plants.  I just added coleus, and I’d like to find a lemon thyme plant.  I swear I’m done then.  But, if I see something else that really calls to me, I’ll be forced to get it.

The garden is thriving under the watchful eye of my garden angel, placed on a hook above the patio flowers and herbs. My mother gave me this angel years ago, long before I had any interest in gardening.  Maybe she was hoping to inspire me.

My mother loved flowers, especially arranging bouquets for the house.  When she moved to assisted living, the only thing we could get her interested in joining was the flower group. They had a gorgeous, well-stocked room that looked like it belonged to a professional florist.  This is where they made the arrangements for the dining room tables and hallways.

I went with her one time and just watched her as she was totally absorbed in making her arrangement.  As always, it was beautiful.  I didn’t seem to be blessed with that gift.   Then, I took a class from a friend who was a professional florist on arranging flowers. My skills improved.

We have zinnias and marigolds in our garden that I use for bouquets for the house and friends.  As I do it, I remember Mom’s special gift and love of flowers.

On Facebook, I talk about nature, poetry, and the life of a writer.
I’d love for you to follow me there!

Lynn H. Wyvill grew up in Washington DC where her favorite activity was sitting under a Japanese red maple tree, watching clouds create pictures in the sky. As a writer, she finds peace and inspiration when hiking in the woods, strolling on sandy beaches, and observing nature’s show in her backyard. Those experiences are captured in her first book, Nature’s Quiet Wisdom. Before writing books, Lynn worked as a radio/TV reporter and writer for the US Department of Agriculture and owned a consulting business that trained professionals on the creation and delivery of effective presentations. She is a lifelong learner, avid reader, small town explorer, and dedicated theater attendee who lives in beautiful Virginia with her husband.
