Comfort in Books

One of my favorite places

I fell in love with libraries when I was 12 years old.   The one that started this love affair was a two-story building with a children’s section on the second floor. It was the best room in the library. It had huge windows that overlooked the woods, which was a treat because we were in the city. It was never crowded. When I sat in the corner of that room close to the windows, I felt like I was in my private treehouse.

I met my girlfriends at the library on Saturday mornings so we could study. I always got there a little early so I could enjoy the quiet.  We talked (but never got in trouble for it)! But we also did a lot of homework there. We went nearly every week, and I always looked forward to it.

Surrounded by books, close to the tall trees, was comforting.

I still love libraries. I took the picture above shortly before our library closed because of the coronavirus.  I miss being able to go there and spend time browsing, deciding what to read next.

I’m still surrounded by books – the ones on my bookshelves at home, the ones I can borrow electronically from the library and the ones I can buy online.

I look forward to my daily email from BookBub with recommendations for books based on my preferences that are on sale at Amazon.

My list of books I want to read is growing rapidly, as friends make recommendations of books they have enjoyed.

I may not be able to visit the library, but I can take a book and sit by a window or outside and enjoy nature while I read.

Nature and books, a huge comfort in tough times.

On Facebook, I talk about nature, poetry, and the life of a writer.
I’d love for you to follow me there!

Lynn H. Wyvill grew up in Washington DC where her favorite activity was sitting under a Japanese red maple tree, watching clouds create pictures in the sky. As a writer, she finds peace and inspiration when hiking in the woods, strolling on sandy beaches, and observing nature’s show in her backyard. Those experiences are captured in her first book, Nature’s Quiet Wisdom. Before writing books, Lynn worked as a radio/TV reporter and writer for the US Department of Agriculture and owned a consulting business that trained professionals on the creation and delivery of effective presentations. She is a lifelong learner, avid reader, small town explorer, and dedicated theater attendee who lives in beautiful Virginia with her husband.
